S2 Games, developers of Heroes of Newerth, has announced that it’s working on a new title, Strife. Strife will be yet another multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, but will be geared towards more casual gamers. Heroes of Newerth has earned itself the title of being the hardcore MOBA on the market, compared to League of Legends and DOTA 2, which was recently officially released by Valve.
According to the developer, Strife is built entirely around the idea of a collective, contributing community. It looks to create a more connected multiplayer experience that centers around cooperation with an innovative, in-client social system and will award players for team collaboration, not simply being at the top of the leaderboard. Perhaps S2 Games is taking some notes from Awesomenauts, which is a side-scroller MOBA but a very successful one for casual gamers. Even more interesting, S2 Games is promising a captivating story to go along with Strife, something that the MOBA genre has typically ignored.
“S2 Games has been in the MOBA market from its inception,” said Marc DeForest, CEO of S2 Games. “Since then, we’ve learned a great deal about this maturing genre through a wide range of analytical studies and experience. For Strife, we want to take MOBAs to the next level, utilizing our resources to blend the processes of game development and player engagement to create a more enjoyable experience that grows the community and evolves the idea of what MOBAs can be.”
Strife will be available this winter.
