Batman: Return to Arkham has been officially announced and will arrive July 26 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. The package includes Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, both visually enhanced and recreated for a new generation. Batman: Return to Arkham will also include all previously released DLC. The game is available for preorder on both Amazon.com and Gamestop and is priced at $49.99.
The original games were powered by Unreal Engine 3, but the remastered versions are made using Unreal Engine 4. According to Warner Bros., players can expect “improved graphics” as well as “upgraded models, environments, lighting, effects, and shaders.” Both games were originally developed by Rocksteady, who were also the minds behind the most recent Batman: Arkham Knight. What is not included in this package is Batman: Arkham Origins, which was developed by WB Games Montreal.
Batman: Arkham Asylum was originally released in 2009 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems. Rocksteady Studios then followed it up with Batman: Arkham City in 2011 for the same systems as well as the Nintendo Wii U.
Handling the remastered versions is Chinese company Virtuous, which also helped co-develop Heavy Rain‘s PS4 version and contributed to the recently released Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
