As expected, Blizzard Entertainment has announced Overwatch‘s newest hero, Ana. According to Blizzard, Ana will be a versatile support character, equipped with a Biotic Rifle that shoots darts to restore health to her allies. Of course, she can also deal ongoing damage to her enemies. Essentially a healing sniper, her skills include Sleep Dart, which can render an enemy unconscious, and Biotic Grenade that deals damage to enemies and heals allies in a small area of effect. Affected allies also briefly receive increased healing from all sources, while enemies that are caught in the Biotic Grenade’s blast cannot be healed for a few seconds. The third skill is Nano Boost, where after Ana hits one of her allies with a combat boost, they temporarily move faster, deal more damage and take less damage from enemies’ attacks.
Ana is one of the founding members of Overwatch and served many years as Strike Commander Morrison’s second-in-command. She was originally believed to have been killed during a hostage rescue mission by the Talon operative known as Widowmaker. In actuality, she was gravely wounded and lost sight in her right eye during her altercation with Widowmaker. Following her recovery and spending years staying out of the world’s growing conflicts, she has rejoined the fight.
Ana joins Lucio, Mercy, Symmetra and Zenyatta as support characters in Overwatch.
