The Square Enix Collective program has been formally announced as “a curated platform that enables creators to post ideas, and gamers to judge whether those ideas should become reality or not.” And while it may seem like another crowdfunding platform, Square Enix Collective is actually partnering up with Indiegogo for the crowdfunding portion.
So what is Square Enix Collective then if it isn’t in charge of crowdfunding? Square Enix is basically giving indie developers a platform to pitch their ideas to the community, and if the ideas pick up steam, Square Enix will lend a helping hand in making it a reality. According to the website, Square Enix will “work with you on a due diligence process to give the community reassurance that you have the expertise and tools you need to create the game you’re planning to – plus we’ll use our experience of bringing games to market to help you work out how much you’ll need to raise to make it a reality.”
In other words, Square Enix is looking to assist indie developers in getting their games out into the open, plus those part of the Square Enix Collective program has the chance to work with older Eidos IP from the company’s back-catalogue.
More details on the Square Enix Collective program will be released at the upcoming GDC Next in Los Angeles on November 5-7.
