The Overwatch release date has been announced and the game will be heading to the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 24, 2016. Blizzard Entertainment also announced those that pre-order digitally or a physical copy for any platform at a participating retailer will get early access to the upcoming open beta starting May 3. Pre-orders also come with an additional open beta access key, so you can invite a friend.
The early access open beta will run from May 3-4 and then after that, everyone will have a chance to play for free from May 5-9 ahead of the Overwatch release date. In order to get a two-day head start in the open beta, pre-orders must be placed by April 29. Players will have access to all 21 heroes during the open beta, along with every map that will be available at launch.
Gamers on the Xbox One will need an Xbox Live Gold account to check out the open beta while PlayStation 4 gamers will not need a PlayStation Plus subscription for the open beta. A PlayStation Plus subscription however will be necessary to play the live game.
No progress from the open beta will carry over to the live game.
