Blizzard Entertainment and Overwatch are celebrating this year’s Summer Olympic Games in style. A new Seasonal Event has been announced and starting today until August 22, players can earn special seasonal Loot Boxes, collect over 100 new cosmetic items and hit the field with their friends in a new brawl called Lúcioball. If you’ve played Rocket League before, Lúcioball is similar in style, except players will take on the role of Lúcio to boop balls into the goal. The mode is a fast-paced, 3v3 match set in the beautiful Estádio das Rãs, located in the heart of Rio de Janiero. The map is littered with jump pads and speed-boosting walls so that players can take advantage of Lúcio’s special abilities, allowing them to punch, glide, block, bounce and boop their way to victory. Each game of Lúcioball lasts four minutes and the team that scores the most points in that time wins.
According to Blizzard, Lúcio’s primary fire has been replaced with a melee attack for the brawl, allowing him to punch the ball, making it perfect for dribbling, passing and shooting from short range. If you need to launch the ball across the map however, Lúcio’s alternate fire will do the job, emitting his signature blast of sound. And unlike other game modes, the speed boost from Lúcio’s Crossfade will only affect himself in the mode, and his ultimate ability will pull the ball toward him from anywhere on the field.
Unfortunately the special loot boxes can’t be purchased with credits, but they can be earned or bought with real money. As a result, each seasonal loot box is guaranteed to contain at least one item from the Summer Games 2016 collection.
Summer Games is currently live in Overwatch on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
