Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Arrives June 30

February 17th, 2017 Jessica Bohannon In News, PlayStation 4 News

Activision has announced Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will head to the PlayStation 4 on June 30, 2017. More details about the upcoming trilogy were shared on the PlayStation Blog, including what has changed compared to the original games: “The addition of real-time lighting in a PBR (Physically Based Rendering) engine, along with an increase in texture size, can sometimes make our environments look different than the originals,” said art lead Dustin King. “Generally, while we strive to recreate each level so it looks and feels like the original, we also want to make sure that environments are fun, colorful, and read well in the fast-paced action with the addition of the new technology we are using.”

And for those still debating whether this is a remaster or a remake, the company clarified that it’s a AAA remaster. “We’re building it using the original level geometry so that it plays as close to the original as possible,” added game director Dan Tanguay. “We’ve also referred to this as a remaster plus, as we are adding new features that we think the fans are going to love!”

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy includes Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot: Warped, and will be priced at $39.99. Expect to see new lighting, animations, cinematics enhanced for 4K and the PS4 Pro, as well as a fully remastered soundtrack. The trilogy will also have full analog stick support and new unified save and checkpoint systems.

Faster Than Light Creators Announce New Game

February 10th, 2017 Jessica Bohannon In News, PC / Mac News, Videos

Subset Games, creators of Faster Than Light, has announced its next new title: Into the Breach. The turn-based strategy game features a similar art style to Faster Than Light, and will have players defending the remnants of human civilization from gigantic creatures breeding beneath the earth. To do so, players will control powerful mechs from the future to hold off the alien threat, with each attempt to save the world offering a new randomly-generated challenge.

Along with the above trailer, Subset Games gave a few details about Into the Breach:

  • Defend the Cities: Civilian buildings power your mechs. Defend them from the Vek and watch your fire!
  • Perfect Your Strategy: All enemy attacks are telegraphed in minimalistic, turn-based combat. Analyze your opponent’s attack and come up with the perfect counter every turn.
  • Build the Ultimate Mech: Find powerful new weapons and unique pilots as you battle the Vek infestation across Corporate-Nation islands.
  • Another Chance: Failure is not an option. When you are defeated, send help back through time to save another timeline!

The game is currently under development and will be heading to Windows, Mac and Linux when the company feels it’s ready.

Fire Emblem Fans Have a Lot to be Excited About

January 18th, 2017 Jessica Bohannon In 2DS / 3DS News, Mobile Gaming News, News, Nintendo Switch News, Videos

Today, Nintendo hosted a Nintendo Direct event focused on the Fire Emblem series, announcing that multiple titles are in the works. These include a new game for mobile devices, two games for the upcoming Nintendo Switch and multiple games for the Nintendo 2DS and 3DS handheld consoles.

The first to arrive will be Fire Emblem Heroes for mobile devices, an original strategy RPG about two warring kingdoms in a bitter clash. Players take on the role of a summoner, building their army by calling upon popular heroes from worlds that span the storied franchise. In addition to the main story mode, the game will offer the opportunity for players to engage in other modes to strengthen their army or to compete against others. The game will be available as a free download with optional in-app purchases available when it launches February 2, 2017.

Next up and for the first time outside of Japan will be Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Inspired by the original 1992 game titled Fire Emblem Gaiden, which has never been offered outside Japan, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia has been reimagined on a grander scale with every aspect of the original game’s presentation having been updated, along with the game being fully voiced. It will head to the 3DS family of systems on May 19, 2017. Accompanying the game will be two amiibo figures, Alm and Celica, both characters from the game.

Then there’s Fire Emblem Warriors, heading to both the Nintendo Switch and New Nintendo 3DS systems. It’s being developed by the same team behind Hyrule Warriors and is scheduled to launch this fall.

Lastly, Nintendo confirmed a new Fire Emblem game is in development for the Switch and is scheduled to launch in 2018.

“In recent years, the popularity of the Fire Emblem franchise has grown exponentially,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The devoted fan base and series newcomers alike will soon have an abundance of new games to play on a variety of devices. There’s never been a better time to be a Fire Emblem fan or jump in for the first time.”

Super Mario Run isn't Heading to Android Until March

Super Mario Run isn't Heading to Android Until March

January 18th, 2017 Jessica Bohannon In Mobile Gaming News, News

Super Mario Run will be available on Android starting March, Nintendo of Japan revealed in a tweet. As Mario’s first official foray into mobile gaming, Super Mario Run initially launched on iOS on December 15, 2016 after debuting at an Apple event in September. On iOS, players can download the game for free and play three levels before they have to pay $9.99 to unlock the full game.

Unlike traditional Mario games, Super Mario Run can be played with only one hand, simply tapping the touchscreen to jump, while Mario runs forward on his own. The game has four modes: World Tour, Kingdom Builder, Toad Rally and Friendly Run.

Android users can pre-register for the mobile game at the Google Play Store and will be notified as soon as it’s available for download.

Play Watch Dogs 2 for Free on PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Play Watch Dogs 2 for Free on PlayStation 4, Xbox One

January 17th, 2017 Jessica Bohannon In News, PlayStation 4 News, Xbox One News

Ubisoft has announced a free trial for Watch Dogs 2 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Players will have the opportunity to check out the full experience of Watch Dogs 2 for up to three hours, with PlayStation 4 owners getting access starting January 17, while Xbox One gamers can check it out starting January 24. The free trial doesn’t hold anything back, Ubisoft promises, so players can explore a massive and dynamic open world while hacking into the city’s infrastructure, every connected device and everyone’s personal database.

To access the trial, you can download it from either the PSN store or Xbox Marketplace and you can use your three hours at any time. On the PlayStation 4, you can easily find it by choosing the “Try Free Demo” option while the Xbox One version has a “Play Trial” option. Since all features are included in the demo, that means you can join up with friends to experience the seamless online and multiplayer experience.

Those that choose to upgrade to the full game after the three hours are over will get to continue playing as normal with all progression earned carried over. It’s worth noting that achievements are not available for demos and trials on either system, but for Xbox One players, all achievements that were earned in the demo will be unlocked once you purchase the full game.

Latest Persona 5 Trailer Previews New Mechanics to the Series

January 17th, 2017 Jessica Bohannon In News, PlayStation 3 News, PlayStation 4 News, Videos

Atlus has shared the latest Persona 5 trailer, which shows off some new mechanics that have never been seen before in the storied franchise. Heading to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles on April 4, 2017, Persona 5 features the Phantom Thieves, and like previous entries in the series, they will be normal Japanese high-schoolers during the day while taking on evil Shadows at night. This time around, players will travel to the Metaverse through a smartphone, unleashing their true Personas while raising some hell at night. Atlus says the Metaverse is essentially the “collective unconscious” of all mankind, where the most distorted desires of people manifest themselves as Palaces.

Which brings us to one of the first new mechanics. In order to enter a Palace, players will pick a target and figure out certain key pieces of information to plug into their Metaverse Navigator app in order to gain access. Once inside the Palace, the Phantom Thieves must fight hordes of Shadows, solve puzzles, defeat the Palace ruler and steal the target’s deepest darkest desire – which is of course in the form of treasure.

Each target will have a different Palace look and theme and it appears there will be a stealth element to the game. Atlus says if the Thieves get caught too many times, they’ll be kicked out of the Metaverse and can only return the next day.

Even more interesting, once players engage a Shadow in a fight, they will have various options including diplomatic ones, like “Hold Up Shadows” that allows you to negotiate to yield more money, items and even a chance to avoid a battle entirely. The protagonist can even convince them to join the Phantom Thieves to be used as a Persona, or of course, you can just smash them to bits and pieces.

Watch the Nintendo Switch Presentation Live Streaming Here

January 12th, 2017 Jessica Bohannon In Nintendo Switch News, Videos

After years of rumors and speculation, the new Nintendo Switch will be arriving in just a matter of months. The company will share more details about its upcoming console at a press event in Tokyo, which you can watch live streaming above. The hybrid console aims to blend the best of both worlds of handheld and home, allowing you to game on the go with the exact same titles you’d expect at home. It’s also quite versatile from what Nintendo has shown off so far, with detachable controllers called “Joy-Con.”

What we do know so far is that the Nintendo Switch can connect to a home television when resting in its dock and when it is lifted out, it will “instantly transition to portable mode,” Nintendo said last year when it first revealed the Switch. Exact specifications on the device have not been revealed, and so far all Nintendo has said is that it offers a “high-definition” display.

Since it is also designed to be a portable device, the Switch will use cartridges that will be called GameCards. It has also been confirmed by Nvidia that it will run on Nvidia hardware, more specifically, a custom system-on-a-chip that is based on its Tegra line of mobile processors.

Hopefully Nintendo will address some major questions that everyone has been wondering, including price, battery life and whether it will be backward compatible with other Nintendo systems. Expect to see plenty of launch titles being announced and shown during the presentation that starts at 8:00 PM Pacific / 11:00 PM Eastern.

PlayStation Store Reveals Top Downloads of 2016

PlayStation Store Reveals Top Downloads of 2016

January 6th, 2017 Jessica Bohannon In News, PlayStation 3 News, PlayStation 4 News, PlayStation Vita News

The Sony PlayStation Store has revealed its top downloads of 2016 with Rocket League claiming the top spot among PlayStation 4 games. Although Rocket League launched in 2015 and was even free for PlayStation Plus members, the game went on to garner more downloads than any other title last year. Rounding out the top five downloaded PlayStation 4 games were Battlefield 1, Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Tom Clancy’s The Division.

For PlayStation 3 games, Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition topped the list, followed by The Last Of Us, Grand Theft Auto V, LittleBigPlanet 3 and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare.

Sony also revealed the top PlayStation VR games that were purchased on the PlayStation Store, which includes Job Simulator, Batman: Arkham VR, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, PlayStation VR Worlds and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes.

Even the PlayStation Vita had its fair share of downloaded games with Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth leading the way for 2016. Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition took the second spot, while God Eater: Resurrection, XCOM: Enemy Unknown Plus and Borderlands 2 made up the top five.

For the Holiday season, ARK: Survivor’s Pack topped the list of PlayStation 4 downloaded games, followed by Final Fantasy XV, Need for Speed, Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Final Fantasy XV Tokyo Game Show Trailer Delves into Story

September 15th, 2016 Jessica Bohannon In News, PlayStation 4 News, Videos, Xbox One News

At Tokyo Game Show 2016, Square Enix revealed a new Final Fantasy XV trailer that delves deeper into the upcoming game’s story and characters. Originally set to be released on September 30, Final Fantasy XV has been delayed to November 29 and will be heading to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The latest trailer is probably the game’s most revealing yet, and ties in the events from Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV. That means if you haven’t watched the movie yet, there will be spoilers in the above trailer. Along with setting the stage for Noctis and his friends setting out on their journey through the land of Eos, the trailer also introduces characters that players will encounter in the opening chapters of the game. Some may be familiar faces if you have watched Kingsglaive.

The highly anticipated RPG follows the story of Crown Prince Noctis and his comrades on an epic journey of brotherhood, love and despair as they unravel Noctis’s destiny while taking up arms against the warmongering empire, Niflheim.

Hopefully Final Fantasy XV doesn’t experience anymore delays and gamers can finally get their hands on it before year’s end. For now, the above trailer should get you excited if you’ve been looking forward to the game.
